Harbinger of Truth

In this thrilling sequel to No Safe Harbor (2023), Seattle private investigator Shane McPhearson finds himself in Portland, Ore., after learning that his mentor and friend, retired prosecutor Robert Keedy, is dying of brain cancer. It's while at his bedside that Shane begins to discover the shocking truth behind his parents' decision to abandon him as a young boy, its connection to the historic period of crime and corruption of 1950s Portland — and how it is all linked to the threat Shane now faces 35 years later.

With threads of Portland's real-life history as a hub for organized crime intricately woven throughout this Pacific Northwest thriller set in the 1990s, Harbinger of Truth offers an exciting new chapter for fans of the Shane McPhearson series.

Beginning with No Safe Harbor (2023), Shane McPhearson uncovers a web of corruption, cover-ups, and murder involving the Seattle Police Department's Eighth Precinct and local organized crime boss Rick Sparlo — with abandoned 8-year-old  Jacob Bettington caught in the middle. As Shane and Jacob race to stay alive, the story explores their shared trauma of abandonment, helping to  heal emotional wounds from their respective pasts.

The series continues in Harbinger of Truth (2025), when Shane travels to Portland to visit his dying mentor, retired prosecutor Robert Keedy. While there, he discovers the truth behind why his parents abandoned him as a child. The story weaves in real-life history from 1950s Portland, which was a known hub for organized crime, linking those historical events to the current threats Shane faces 35 years later.

The series will continue this September (2026) in Requiem for Revenge, as Shane tracks down mob boss Rick Sparlo and must choose between his personal desire for revenge and society's need for justice.

The
Pacific Northwest is my writing canvas

"Living in Oregon, I am constantly aware of the dichotomy of beauty and danger that co-exist — in nature and 'civilization.' The Pacific Northwest, in all its splendor, also has an uneasy history with organized crime. I find that juxtaposition a fascinating backdrop for compelling storytelling. "
